The arts industry is uniquely important to the State of New York, as
reflected by the concentration of world-class cultural institutions across
the state. Broadway, film production companies, nonprofit arts organizations
and a variety of other arts-focused institutions infuse the state with
creative capital and fiscal gain.
In our 1997 report The
Economic Impact of the Arts on New York City and New York State,
the Alliance for the Arts found that the industry was responsible
for $13.4 billion in economic impact and 174,000 jobs
across the state. Thanks to its rich diversity, the arts industry
has strong links with other industries such as tourism and communications.
This site will from time to time feature reports about the arts industry,
its economic impact and the health of the industry overall with special
attention paid to the industry?s role in attracting tourists to
the state.
