Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson,
\nthe graceful building that is Albany’s seat of local government
\nwas completed in 1883. In a room at the top of its 220-foot tower is the
\nfirst municipal carillon in the United States, installed in 1926. Restored
\nand enlarged during the city’s tricentennial in 1986, the concert-class,
\n49-bell instrument is played by guest and local performers at midday
\nconcerts during June and July.
