activities including the No-Octane Regatta, which features wooden boat races
and other activities at the museum's home in Blue Mountain Lake.

a month-long series occurring in June or July. It presents new work by
American playwrights in venues in Glens Falls.

Airport Playhouse

Located two miles away from the Long Island
MacArthur Airport, the Airport Playhouse brings the Suffolk County community
of Bohemia ten full-scale musical productions each year. The Children’s
Theatre features performances by local schoolchildren in 12 plays or musicals
that are held at the playhouse and at local Long Island schools.

Akwesasne Cultural Center

Located on the St. Regis Indian Reservation, the
Akwesasne Cultural Center hosts changing exhibits, traditional arts classes
and other programs that preserve the historical and cultural legacy of the
Akwesasne Mohawk Indians.

Albany City Hall and Carillon

Designed by Henry Hobson Richardson,
the graceful building that is Albany’s seat of local government
was completed in 1883. In a room at the top of its 220-foot tower is the
first municipal carillon in the United States, installed in 1926. Restored
and enlarged during the city’s tricentennial in 1986, the concert-class,
49-bell instrument is played by guest and local performers at midday
concerts during June and July.

The Albany Institute of History & Art collects

ongoing installations of its permanent collection, the institute also hosts

history of 19th-century decorative arts.

Albany International Airport-Arts and Culture Program

Dating from its reopening after substantial renovations in 1998, the
Albany airport has hosted a comprehensive and competitive exhibition
program in its new terminal featuring the work of artists and museums
in the Hudson Valley and national traveling exhibitions. Exhibits make
use of an airport concourse, glass cases throughout the terminal, and a
dedicated 2,500-square-foot gallery.

Albany Riverfront Park

An 800-seat amphitheater in this popular
local park brings people to the river for concert series such as the Albany
Riverfront Jazz Festival, Alive at Five, and the Father´s Day Pops Concert
(see Festivals, below). An exhibit in the visitor center explains the Hudson
River’s tides; there are also a bike trail and a boat launch.

Albany Symphony Orchestra

The Albany Symphony Orchestra presents performances
of well-loved favorites alongside new or lesser-known works at venues in the
capital region, including the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in Troy, the
Palace Theatre in Albany and Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs. In
addition to evening concerts, the orchestra also organizes afternoon family
concerts and classes for adults.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery began in 1905 as the
home of the art collection of one of the oldest public arts organizations in
the country, the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, founded in 1862. Rich in postwar American and European art, the
Albright-Knox houses a permanent collection that rivals that of many larger
museums in the United States and presents an active program of temporary
exhibitions.

Miller Performing Arts Center at Alfred University hosts music, dance and

understanding among world peoples through the study of music. The
center offers regular public performances, runs a summer music festival,
and offers “Encounters with the Masters,” an immersion in operatic
literature, performance, and Italian culture with prestigious faculty from
such venerable Italian institutions such as La Scala.

American Chamber Ensemble

A consortium of distinguished musicians based at
Hofstra University on Long Island, the American Chamber Ensemble has
presented concerts examining music made by the clarinet, piano, stringed
instruments, woodwinds and voice for over 40 years. The ensemble focuses on
works by American composers and has performed pieces by Aaron Copland,
Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin to name a few. Concerts are held from
September through June.

American Museum of Firefighting

The Firemen’s Association of
the State of New York created the Museum of Firefighting on the grounds
of the Firemen’s Home in 1925 to safeguard the heritage of volunteer
firefighting in New York State. It contains one of the largest collections of
firefighting apparatus, equipment, gear, and memorabilia in the world.
Old-time fire trucks, tools, badges, uniforms—even firemen’s hats—
remind one of how much—and how little—has changed in the fighting
of fires. Staff and retired volunteer firefighters lead tours.

A building complex in the Erie county town of
Amherst that aims to recreate the environments of 19th-century rural life in
America, the Amherst Museum includes a plank-constructed Greek-Revival house,
a late 19th-century barbershop, a replica of an 1836 log-cabin chapel and
other buildings from the 19th-century that present the historic architectural
styles used throughout the Niagara Frontier. The Shaw Main Exhibition
Building mounts thematically organized shows covering topics in American
domestic culture.

Arena Players Repertory Theatre

Bringing an eclectic mix of traditional and
experimental theater productions to Long Island’s Suffolk County since its
beginning in 1950, today the Arena Players perform in a duplex space called
the Second Stage in East Farmingdale. During the summer months, the Players
hold their annual Shakespeare in the Park series at the Vanderbilt Mansion in
Centerport, as well as a children’s series in the Vanderbilt Mansion’s newly
renovated Carriage House Theatre.

A traveling mask and puppet theater ensemble based
in Malden-on-Hudson, Arm-of-the-Sea Productions presents mainstage and
outdoor performances at Hudson Valley venues such as the Old Songs Festival
in Voorheesville, the Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge and the
Jewish Museum in Manhattan. The group also performs and hosts workshops in
schools.

important 19th-century art amassed by Matthias H. Arnot, the Arnot Art Museum
in Elmira organizes exhibitions of work by local and international artists.
Every two years the museum mounts Re-presenting Representation, an exhibition

also funds a public art project that placed an outdoor installation called
Daydream in Corning’s Gaffer District and a Folk Art Program that has
featured the work of a local Polish-American Easter egg artist.

Made up of visual and performing artists and their supporters, this busy arts center in downtown Kingston hosts monthly exhibits in its two galleries and organizes theater performances, readings and off-site exhibitions. Special events include an Open Studio Tour each October and the Kingston Sculpture Biennial in odd-numbered years. The biennial displays numerous sculptures sited in public places around Kingston, thus giving the local community and visitors a chance to view art for free and at their leisure.

Trust building in downtown White Plains, the newly renovated Arts Exchange is
home to the ArtsWestchester, the largest arts council in the State
of New York. Since 1965, the ArtsWestchester has displayed the work of area artists

multi-use Arts Exchange features exhibition galleries, low-cost rental space
for arts organizations and a Cultural Tourism Centre on the ground floor.

With performances held at the Patchogue Theatre for
the Performing Arts on Long Island, the Atlantic Wind Symphony is a
professional orchestra comprised solely of Long Island-based musicians.
Founded in 1968, the symphony holds concerts throughout the year, including
its annual Holiday Festival that features multi-denominational seasonal
music.
